Sainsbury's Kiosk

Flow Revamp

Background

  • This is a mock-up case on the system enhancement of Sainsbury's kiosk.
  • The business team discovered their current customers decided to drop out while their fruit and vegetables needed to be scaled. They decided to take out the scale processing in the checkout process, so I need to implement their throught.
  • This is one of the personal project cases of the seven-month UX Design Bootcamp.

My Role

  • I acted in the UX design role, gathering user requirements, understanding the business owner's needs, and handling the visual design and prototyping.

Business Problems & Business Goals

Business Problems

  • The business team discovered their current customers decided to drop out while their fruit and vegetables needed to be scaled.

Business Goals

  • Standardize the fruit into unit price rather than by weight to reduce the client's abandoned basket rate.

User Journey Mapping

Rapid Wireframing

Wireframing is a good chance to align the user requirements. I tried to complete the wireframing in 15 minutes. Although that is ugly, it is a good chance to cross-check if anything is missing. I get the confirmation from the user before the Hi-Fi layouts.

Design System

As Sainsbury's till is a part of Sainsbury's customer-facing interface, I adopted their design system - Luna.

Hi-Fi Layout

  • Interactive Prototyping - Considering the price calculation is one of the key functions of this mock-up. I added local variables into this mock-up so that the user can have a more interactive experience in the prototype stage.
  • Intuitive Design - Self-checkout is an end-user interface with very limited help for trained users. We have various customers, and intuitive design is vital.
